There is no need to continue feeling depressed when all you need to do is make an appointment with a registered psychiatrist who will be able to help you. Apart from the various depression treatments, there are a number of medications available that doctors prescribe to their depression patients. Although it can be costly, depression, when caught early on, is curable using medication and therapy treatment combined but this may be too expensive for many. Two main depression treatments stand out from the rest and are now used in many cases of depression providing an insight to the sufferer of the condition they have and they are interpersonal and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Luckily both types of treatment can work in, medically speaking, a short time period often in less than twenty weeks marked improvements can be seen in the depressed patient. The first step is making an appointment with a doctor who specializes in this type of problem and who has a good track record to enable an accurate diagnosis of just what type of depression the patient is actually suffering from. Owing to the large number of depression medications currently available, it would be easy to give the wrong one and make the condition worse. Drug companies have, over the years, realized the extent of the problem and considerable research has gone into producing a very wide range of drugs.
The more popular ones are those that are of the selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors then there are the tricyclics while the other popular variant is the monoamine oxidase inhibitor. The last thing you want when taking medication is to feel worse. Strangely, despite these side effects, the doctor may believe the patient will be better off taking a mixture of these drugs to help the condition. It is not uncommon for the doctor under these circumstances to prescribe two or more of the drugs if it will benefit the patient’s condition.
If the doctor feels it will help he may raise or lower the dosage of the medication he has prescribed in order to best meet the patient’s personal requirement. While it may be normal and expected for doctors to try this mix and matching, the patients are warned against playing with their depression medication dosages. In the past, depression patients have mistaken sedatives and anti-anxiety pills for anti-depressants with bad results so this is something to be avoided. Although often prescribed as a combination treatment with other medication, anti-anxiety drugs are not used to cure the problem.
Their purpose is to help calm the nerves, which is why depression medications are still required to be taken by the depression patient. .There are actually some common side-effects, usually coming from the tricyclic variety. Some people do not mind these side-effects from these drugs, however if it does become too much of a bother they can result in ruining a persons ability to function properly. In any situation like this the first course of action is to report it to your physician as soon as possible.
